  1. John, I am trying to provide alcoholics in prison with mp3 players with the big book of AA. I already have permission from the California Department Of Corrections to send mp3 players to any California prison. I have raised enough to purchase about 1000 players thus far. I am wondering if I can get your written permission to use your mp3 file to download on an unlimited number of mp3 players to be given free of charge to Alcoholics in prison. I also would like your permission to use any of your alcoholic related mp3 downloads to load on these players that might further bringing the message to the alcoholic. Please email me and I can provide further information, documents and pictures of mp3 proving my endeavor. Thank you for your time.

    Sincerely,
    Jeffrey Crawford

  4. Thank you so much for putting the Big Book audio files on the web. I have a difficult time with reading comprehension and being able to listen while I read helps me absorb the material.

  5. I have benefitted greatly from the audios of the Big Book. Sincere thanks for all the effort that has gone into it.

  6. Hi John,
I am very grateful for this download as I am currently helping a friend who is blind to have his own experience with the big book. Just one question however, is the doctor’s opinion available to download?

    Regards

    Manny b

    1. Hi Manny B
Afraid I don’t have a copy to dl. There are sites out there who will let you listen to the BB on-line including the Doctor’s Opinion.

      Thanks
      John D

    2. Manny, The Dr’s opinion is the last section of the 1st file of the big book above, entitled “Preface to the AA Big Book”. I am new and my sponsor shared some things from the prefaces that helped me too. Like how the “old-timers” only had a few years when the book was written, how I should not expect everyone to behave well as we are a group of sick people helping eachother get better, and how quickly we can begin helping others in AA. Best to you and your friend.

  7. I’m so glad this is here. I have a hard time reading myself and when i go to meetings and here people read, they go so fast it’s hard for me to keep up. I’ve been following this in my big book and able to pause it and go back and rehear it. Thank you!

  8. Thanks cor this offer. Have lots of time in my car, which is also where i did mostof mydrinking. Thought itwould be great to hear it then.

  12. Thank you, John! I’m grateful to you for this site. I can’t afford a Big Book right now. I am returning to AA after years of trying to make it on my own. I had a belly full of program and a head full of pain. I got back to the meetings when a friend asked for a ride to a meeting. I walked into the meeting helping my friend, and realize the insanity of my semi-sober death walk of a life without working this program. I felt at home. Your site and these MP3s have helped me. Now I have the book in my head, if not in my hands. My current life consists of driving my friend to meetings, court dates, work, and meetings. Without this book, a good sponsor, and daily meetings, I would be some sort of savior, a victim, or living somebody else’s life. My feelings are returning and the drama is dialing down to a setting worthy of reality. This thing works, you know. Ain’t that the damnedest thing? It works.

    1. Billy,

If you can not find anyone at a local AA fellowship willing to give you a big book, please shoot me an email (skylab.fitness [at] gmail.com) and I can mail you a mini big book for free (I have a drawer full of them).

  13. I am a friend of Bill W., and I am blind. Thanks for providing this website. I have bought several versions of audio Bigbooks, but don’t always have them available, so thanks for having a place where I can still get to the book.

  16. I’m getting ready to go to truck driving school and was wondering… is there a way for me to download this to my computer? I may not alway’s be able to get internet connection and Being on the road I really need to stay connected with my higher power and my readings. Please get back to me. Thank you.

    1. Hi Steve

You should be able to right click in your browser and “Save Target as……” to save the mp3 to your hard drive.

You should then be able to transfer to an portable music player of burn to CD.

  17. Thanks for your time to do this excellent piece of work. A little unordthodox maybe but I have started swimming again regularly and so bought myself a water proof MP3 player, rather then listen to mindless pop I thought of and audio book! What better than the big book ! there’s more than one way to receive the message :)

  19. Thanks John for the service you have provided. I spend a lot of time on the road and oftentimes traveling really puts me in an odd state of mind. This will really help me keep my focus.
On a similar note, I often download audiobooks from a free website called Librivox.org, where audio recordings of various works of literature within the public domain can be freely downloaded. As of right now they do not have a reading of the Big Book. If you feel like you have the time, check the page out, and I’m sure they’d welcome your recordings.

  21. This is great! I am dating an alcoholic and have been going to meetings with him. I am going to see if they have had access to this audio because I am sure there are some that struggle with reading and this would be very helpful.

    BIG THANKS!

    1. Hi Frank,
I’m afraid the BB as one file is too big to put on site or email. You can download each file one by one using “Right Click” on MP3 link and “Save as…”

The MP3’s could then be put on CD’s or an MP3 player/IPOD I’ve done this myself for people who have difficulty reading.

  28. Hi,
I have put the Big Book files together as a single MB4 audiobook file (I also added the 12×12). The file will play in any player (iTunes and windows media player plus others). It is handy for those with an ipod or want a bookmarkable file together in iTunes etc. I will be happy to email it to you if you want to put it on your site, for those who may find it useful.
    All the best
    Malcolm K.
